This jar is Leland Incised, variety LeFlore, a description that specifically refers to the meandering motif found on the vessel. This motif carries into historic times on pottery made by the Chickasaws. It most likely dates post AD 1500. There are a series of arcaded handles around the neck and a continuous series of applique nodes around the rim. The interior of the rim is sharply bevelled. It was made of a course shell-tempered paste called Mississippi Plain.
